Employment OpportunitiesBilingual Legislative Drafter The Yukon is a dynamic legal environment. Reporting to the Chief Legislative Counsel, and as a member of the Legislative Counsel team, the Bilingual Legislative Drafter is responsible for drafting legislation in French to ensure the government meets its obligations under the Languages Act. The incumbent must ensure that the French version of legislation is a valid expression of the policy and legislative objectives of government. The person will also draft motions in French to amend legislation; perform terminology and documentary research; and prepare other complex legal material in French. As Bilingual Legislative Drafter, you must have the highest proficiency in French and English, be able to communicate with clients and colleagues and receive instructions in English, and draft in French. The incumbent must have the ability to work with a minimum of supervision. You will also participate as a member of the Legislative Counsel team, working closely with the Chief Legislative Counsel, Legislative Counsel and staff in the unit in the preparation of legislation and in the development, review and maintenance of drafting manuals, conventions and internal procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience in legislative drafting in French (with translation from English to French), either in government or in the private sector. Applicants must have a law degree.
