Salary : $30.66 to $35.39 per hour (based on 40 hours a week) (Paid Annual Registration Fee, Registered Nurse Market Adjustment Allowance)

Join our health care team on an auxilliary on call basis.  As a Corrections Nurse, you will assess and address the physical and psychological needs of clients in a diverse and busy environment.  You will work independently, with daily opportunities to use your health assessment skills and pharmacology knowledge.  You will initiate treatment and assist inmates to improve, maintain and promote a heathly lifestyle.  Every day is different.

Reporting to the Correction Nurse/Coordinator, the Corrections Nurse is responsible for the administration of medical, mental health, dental and optometry programs, the public health function within the Whitehorse Correctional Centre, and for recommending suitable work participation and treatment for offenders with particular mental and physical health problems.   

We are currently seeking an individual with a BScN or Nursing Diploma with strong clinical skills and experience working in a variety of fields (eg. emergency, surgical, psychiatry, etc.) and experience working within a cross cultural environment.  Experience working in an Correctional institution would be an asset.

Along with the above, the ideal candidate will  possess effective communication skills; can assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing processes; is comfortable dealing with stressful/crisis situations; displays understanding, tact and patience; and can conduct inmate health clinics.

Condition(s) of Employment: Medical and Security clearance, current Yukon RN Registration, TB Testing, CPR Level C, Standard First Aid and a valid Yukon Driver’s License.

Job Requirement(s): Uniform and shift work which is 08:30 to 16:30 and/or 12:00 to 20:00, Monday to Friday, and 4 hours on Saturday and Sunday. 

A one year eligibility list will be established from this competition to fill future vacancies for identical positions and may also be used for similar positions within the department.
